Blog Post 6:

Winston in 1984 is an interesting character by nature of the fact that he is completely ordinary. There is nothing particularly special or remarkable about winston, and that is why Orwell choose him as the narrator. The thoughts and desires for freedom come to the ordinary, it's the simple people who band together that produce change . Winston is easily relatable, or at least he is meant to be easily relatable.

  1. I agree with you that Winston is ordinary and kind of makes him quiet bland and boring in my opinion. I never felt relatable to him but rather Julia instead.

  2. One could very well argue the fascinating character that Winston is. The whole set up he is given really gives opportunity for many more people to be able to relate to him, which answers why he's the main character in the first place.
